The Sanctuary of Apollo at Delphi functioned as the political and spiritual center of the ancient Greek world for nearly a thousand years, its oracle consulted by city-states before declaring war, founding colonies, or drafting constitutions.
Perched on the southwestern slope of Mount Parnassus at an elevation of 570 meters, the site commanded views across the Pleistos Valley to the Corinthian Gulf, a geographic drama that amplified its sacred authority.
